Who we are
L Community started with a handful of women meeting in a London pub. Ten years on it is the largest lesbian network in the country, and the events have never once stopped running.
We are not part of a wider LGBT+ platform. We are not funded by the state or by anyone else. Everything here was built by women who watched lesbian spaces close one after another and decided to build the replacements themselves.
The community programme runs through a Community Interest Company, a non-profit structure representing same-sex attracted women.
Built the app. Sex-verified at sign-up, with safeguarding and moderation designed in from the first line of code.
Ran the events. Comedy nights, speed friending, pool, book club, BSL club and monthly online socials, month after month.
Grew the network. Six Meetup groups, over 270 events run, and women joining every week.
Led the march. We launched Lesbian Pride independently, twice.
Built the directory. Women helping each other out. Rooms, trades, therapists, photographers and jobs, with things already getting sorted through it.

What L Community actually does
The app
Every member is verified as female before she gets in. Once you are through, there is a community timeline, messaging, event listings, the directory and profiles of women near you. Free to join and free to use.
The events
Around 50 women come to L Community Nights most months, 25 to speed friending, 20 to pool. Plus a free book club, a BSL club and a monthly online social. Turning up on your own is the norm here, not the exception.
The directory
Women listing what they offer and what they need. Rooms, trades, therapists, designers, photographers, jobs. Free to list, checked before approval, and women are already finding each other work through it.

Who runs it
Jenny Watson, founder
Jenny started running lesbian socials in London a decade ago because there was nowhere left to go. What began as a night in a pub became six Meetup groups, an app, a business directory, and a High Court case brought in her own name.
She is the founder and sole director, and she brought the case against Southwark in her own name.
How we keep it safe
A women-only space is only worth the name if somebody actually runs it properly. Membership is verified. Posts and profiles are moderated. Events are staffed and alcohol is restricted. The safeguarding policy is written down and published, so you can read exactly what we do.
A lot of the women here have been made to feel unwelcome somewhere else. The point of having systems is that nobody has to hope for the best.

We are building the UK's first female-only lesbian venue
Not a bar and not a nightclub. A permanent, community-run space that lesbians hold the use of, instead of borrowing rooms and hoping the booking survives.
Southwark Council refused our application for a disused railway arch in March 2025. That refusal is now before the High Court as Watson v London Borough of Southwark.
